With the summer sun shining kindly for a change East Devon primary School aquathletes performed brilliantly as they tackled the 100m pool swim and 1200m run at the 2017 East Devon Schools Aquathlon.
40 budding young triathletes from 8 East Devon Primary schools took part in the annual East Devon Aquathlon competition on 15th June at Honiton Swimming Pool and All Hallows Playing Fields. Numbers were slightly down on original entries, but this did not detract from a fantastic competition. Participants were encouraged throughout by Juliet Paterson Triathlon England's South West School's Lead Coach. A big thank you to Juliet for her time and support.
Would be Alistair and Jonny Brownlee's and Vicky Holland's Stanfordís took part in the shortened version of the triathlon event. The competitors, teachers and parents all contributed to a super atmosphere. The 100m pool swim, transition and 1200m run tested some young aquathletes to the limit with many showing real self-belief and determination to finish the event. There were some very close results and all competitors deserve huge credit. St Peterís Orcas team took the honours, pushed all the way by Clyst Hydon Primary School; well done also to Kilmington Primary School who finished in third place. St Peter's Sharks, Plymtree Marlins, Plymtree Barracudas, Lympstone, Kentisbeare, Honiton and The Duchy completed the line-up.
A big thank you to Young Sports Leaders from Honiton Community College and The Kingís School who remained calm throughout the scoring and marshalling of a busy and competitive event. many thanks Thanks also to Honiton Rugby Club for allowing access to their clubhouse and facilities and to Leisure East Devon for their support with pool booking.
