Early May sunshine for Honiton Tri-golfers

Early May sunshine for Honiton Tri-golfers

Honiton Golf Club provided a perfect setting for East Devon's second Trigolf competition of the Summer term

Year 3 and 4 pupils from The Honiton, Axe Valley and Exmouth areas enjoyed some pleasant early May weather as they competed in the second East Devon qualifying round of The Golf Foundation's Trigolf format which leads to The Devon Summer School Games finals on June 22nd in Plymouth. Over 50 pupils tested their skills across 8 putting and chipping stations at Honiton Golf Club. Year 8 Sports Leaders from Honiton Community College put in some excellent work, ably officiating and assisting teachers at the event with their Spirit of the Games award decisions. The Spirit of the games prizes were awarded by staff at each school who nominated one boy and one girl from their teams who best demonstrated the School Games values of: determination and respect during play. Seaton Primary School emerged as winners, closely followed by neighbours Upottery in second place with Offwell in 3rd place and Beer and Marpool Primary schools finishing in 4th and 5th places respectively. A particular well done goes to Marpool players on their first appearance at an East Devon School Games Golf event. All children made great progress during the afternoon’s golf and were encouraged to make the next step and try golf at the outstanding facilities offered by club professional Adrian Cave who was on hand throughout to coordinate and offer advice. Congratulations to Seaton Primary School who will be joined by Burlescombe Primary School as East Devon’s representatives at The Devon Summer School Games on Wednesday 22nd June in Plymouth.
